Regenerating Swindon / Re: 3,000 more dwellings to be directed West of Swindon

Geoff,

When it comes to planning applications, like you say, one councillor, even both or all the councillors in the area can vote against it, but the rest vote for it. It's a very old trick and keeps 'your' councillor from taking the blame.  But sometimes it's better the devil you know than the devil you don't!

The best way to stop the development is to appeal to all of those it will effect and get their names or work against EVERY councillor.
Who is likely to get voted in, if Cllr Dickinson doesn't?  Will they be more effective at fighting development?

Des,  I get the  'licence to run it'  I'm involved with at least two local groups which do just this - nothing as fancy as the Wyvern.  The thing here is the 'licence'  that can be withdrawn probably at very short notice, so the asset stays firmly in the ownership of SBC and therefore us.

Locally - at a community level, it's a great way to do things and keep them in the hands of local people.  It also gives people, who may never have had the chance before, to have a  bit of hands on management, this can be used as  enducational tool and get work experience etc. It would be better if there was a Lease (tenure secure for  aperiod of years) rather than a Licence to enable them to raise money to make improvements to buildings.

Nagging again, but we are still awaiting the Boroughs Community Asset Transfer Policy. I know this has not moved forward because we have not been consulted. :santa_cheesy: Had we had consultation before the last (and only) draft was launched we might well have had a working document by now. If we don't soon get one  me and a few friends will write one for them and charge them for it!

So I can see the sense in handing over some of our assets to others to run, but if open spaces and parks are handed over and expected to be run as a busines, we will all soon be buying season tickets to take a walk in the park. And there was us thinking that's why we were paying our council tax. there is always the improtant difference between leaseing/licensing and selling off!

As for the Golf Clubs and SBC Gym's. Private gyms are extremely expensive to use and would exclude some people from using them.  If the Parks and open spaces go too, where will the harder up go for their exercise?  Stick to the paths next to roads I suppose.

All of the above have a range of issues attached to them, health, education,  well being, well, you get my drift.

Chav:  "but haven't we heard it all before in various other guises !"

We have.....but nothing quite so devastating as this and once set on course there will be no turning back for some of it.

Alex:  "Meanwhile the developers are still trying to nick our green spaces..I didn't notice any reference to this...."

It is there in the community Matters stuff, about public places including parks and open spaces being sold/leased off enbloc - I think they read it as not necessarily to developers, but to someone private to manage as a business.  Now if we had our act together we could bid for that, but the liklihood of the community - any community or part of it, being in a position to do that and sustain it is pretty much impossible. And we've been telling them that for years now.

One of my biggest concerns with this posting above was the advice from the Chief Exec of Community Matters which seems to be to be saying "Roll over and do as you are told"  so the caring/doing for your community in a voluntary way has become a compulsion, so no longer voluntary.

If I wanted to become 'more market driven'  I would have set up my own business years ago and been rich by now.

And where the heck do they think they are going to find '5000 Community Organisers' with the qualifications to do a good job, they just are not about.

One day, perhaps quite soon, the recent protestations and media gurnings of the Freshbrook & Grange Park Councillors  will be seen for what they were: Hollow and hypocritical.

Cllrs Dickinson, Bray & Greenhalgh always knew the developer would appeal, just as they already know that SBC will not robustly oppose the Hook lane development.

About 20 weeks until tricky Dicky is up for re-election.

He won't be getting my vote and I'll set aside some time to make him work hard, (and honestly this time), for every vote he does get.

I prefer to post as myself although I think there are many good reasons for adopting a pseudonym when posting opinion/fact on t'internet.

That said, Brizzley hid behind a pseudonym to deliberately and repeatedly put TS in a difficult legal position. Ultimately I believe Brizzley wanted to deny every member of TS the ability to post their opinions on TS, whether from behind pseudonyms or not.

That, in my book, is a shitty use of a pseudonym.

Developers nicking green space= That's maximising income to SBC why would they want to stop that.
Whose left in a depleted parks and landscape team to stop that from happening anyway.

Comon' 20 - come clean - what was your Adver comments section pseudonym?

It's Mr Blackwell apparently eh 20Eyes aka the Pantomime Troll

I think trying to out members who post under a different name is a fairly useless thing to do as this person 20Eyes has decided that posting under their real name may be harmful to who they are or their profession. If that person cannot post something under their true identity you seriously have to doubt their convictions, in this case 20Eyes is never able to stay on subject without belittling or verbally rampaging others who differ with his opinion.

i have been watching the forum very closely lately but i cam surmise that 20Eyes has some fairly finite views which cannot be debated because he attacks the person who differs from him. your either with him or against him....sounds like the local administration to me, or i could be wrong and he's acting like a cock

Speaking personally, I don't post under my real name purely in case I accidentally post something that I shouldn't from a work perspective, and because it is clearer that whatever I post is my own opinion and nothing which can be linked back to my employer.  (This is a general rule I follow, not just applicable to TalkSwindon).

It's nothing to do with the strength of my convictions.....

Moley

sorry should have said at the beginning of my post 'in the case of 20 Eyes' but thanks for the answer
