Title: Swindon Conservatives: Doing WiFi Business The Lord Ashcroft Way?
Post by: Geoff Reid on April 08, 2010, 01:51:36 pm

A short video asking whether Conservative dominated Swindon Borough Council is looking after local businesses as well as it claims.

Swindon Conservatives have become mired in controversy after secretly entering into a public/private partnership to procure a Borough-Wide WiFi 'mesh' for the town.

Members of the Talkswindon forum have been helpfully pointing out the many errors, flaws and 'oddities' surrounding the scheme (http://www.talkswindon.org/index.php?board=207.0) and its backers.

This help has not been welcomed by the Councils cabinet members who have described questions about their WiFi project as 'damaging' and 'offensive'.

All this, just a few hours after Cllr David Renard boasts on Twitter (http://twitter.com/CllrDavidRenard/status/11817554951)

Quote from: David Renard
"Meeting Teresa Villiers MP 2 discuss policy issues. There's national interest in the great stuff Swindon's doing"

I'd email Ms Villiers the url to this thread, but I doubt her @.gov.uk email address is working now  :(

Another masterpiece Geoff. I wonder if the Swindon Advertiser will run this latest gaff by
TT. Bluh?
T.T.  by the way is nothing to do with the Isle of Man races, it stands for Teflon Treated Bluh.

I'm not saying any money is being stolen Mellon.

I have no evidence of that and we all need to be very careful not to allege something without evidence.  :)

You are right though, it is 'Anti-Ashcroft' in that if Digital City ever does turn a profit, (highly unlikely imho), some of those profits will obviously go to the the off-shore company which owns 35% of Digital City.

Would have been much better to have seen local businesses tendering for, and hopefully getting, the lions share of the profits from this public/private venture.

Shame that the Rodigarchy's addiction to secrecy and control-freakery meant that local businesses were deliberately excluded.....

...and the Rodigarchy has the nerve to lecture Swindon on 'inclusion' ?

I can't take any credit for researching the facts Bobby, the credit for that belongs elsewhere  ;)

Its not all bad on the Isle of Man they have got a steam railway and there is a loco in bits lying around that used to be on the old Midland and South West Junction Railway MSWJR. I don't know about anything else off shore. Better known for its TT races, and the fact that Nigel Mansell was a Special Constable on the Island. More famous for the birch controversy.

There isn't an icon for     "gobsmacked: and -then- in- hindsight- why- am- I- surprised?"

Expectations fall even further of all politicians......no I didn't think that was possible either.

Scrutiny Committee were told tonight that this was just a 'minor error', that Digital City (UK) Ltd's solicitors just left out the 'UK' when recording aQovia UK Ltd as a shareholder of Digital City (UK) Ltd. And if you believe that… you're Mr Bluh

Bwahahahaha!!!...

...'Just' left out the UK...and 'accidentally' inserted the complete Isle of Man address for the off-shore company.

Ultimately I think todays panic re-shuffling of shares between companies will make little legal difference when they realise there is yet ANOTHER 'aQovia' - aQovia group, (also Isle of Man registered), which looks like the parent company of the two other aQovias.

Bluh & Co simply cannot have performed due diligence. Incompetent or looking corrupt?, readers must decide this for themselves and I'm sure an official external investigation will uncover many more 'little errors' than we have.

Too many errors for my liking.

Luckily, when Cllr Bluh tried to down play the error by stating that it was just a case of leaving the UK off the paperwork,  I had a copy of the relevant companies house form to hand that confirmed the Isle of Man address also.

Yet another example of how easily the Rodigarchy will try to warp the truth into something that suits his fantasy empire.

He never stops either.

They did say at Scrutiny that aQovia UK Ltd had been set up especially for this project. Which suggests they knew all along that the investors were offshore.

It is strange that the aQovia web site states that Muhammad Malik is the managing director and founder of aQovia yet he is not even listed as a Director of aQovia UK Ltd. He is the Managing Director of aQovia Ltd (Isle of Man) and Director or aQovia Group (Isle of Man). What does this say about aQovia UK Ltd?

It is also interesting that aQovia UK Ltd have not filed form "88(2) Return of Allotment of Shares" with Companies House.
